What needs to happen first?
IRS Form 1023
Apply for federal recognition of exemption. Until approval, donors have no advance assurance that gifts will qualify as tax-deductible.
Organization bank account & EIN
Use an account titled in the organization's legal name. The payment provider's requirements must be satisfied before activating donation processing.
Donor records & accountability
Establish written controls for receipts, restricted gifts, financial reviews, privacy, and accurate donor disclosures.
